Purpose of the grant:
To support a non-residential counseling program that provides a critcal link to families in DC,
not in shelters, to go through the process of healing from and becoming safe from abuse.
Impact:
My Sister’s Place has a history of effective intervention with women facing the complex legal, financial,
and emotional problems resulting from domestic violence. Through 20 years of community education it have also
significantly heightened awareness about domestic violence and has worked hard to dispel the dangerous myths
that exist about the dynamics of family violence.
Since its doors opened, My Sister's Place has sheltered more than 1,700 women
and 2,000 children, helped more than 50,000 hotline callers, and educated thousands of people in the community about
family violence and its prevention.
Mission:
My Sister's Place is an interactive community committed to eradicating domestic violence. It provides safe, confidential shelter,
programs, education, and advocacy for battered women and their children. Its goal is to empower women to take control
of their own lives.

"Grants that Make a Difference" is a rotating
feature profiling grants awarded to 501(c)3 nonprofit
organizations in the Metropolitan Washington,
DC area ONLY (the grantmaker doesn't necessarily
have to be local). The selection of grants for
"Grants That Make a Difference" is based on criteria
such as programmatic interests, geographic focus,
and size, to ensure the broadest possible representation
of the region's nonprofit sector.

with "Grants Submission" in the subject line.
We welcome press releases in addition to, or as
a substitute for the description.
Here is what you need to include:
- Name of your funded program
- The amount of the grant (indicate if multi-year)
- Who received the grant - Your organization's name, contact person's name (if applicable), address, telephone and Web site (if applicable).
- Who gave the grant - Name of the grantmaker
- Community impact: A brief (250 words maximum) explanation of how this program is making a difference in the community.
