Purpose of the grant:
To support an Information Technology disaster preparedness program for nonprofit organizations in the greater Washington, DC region.
Impact:
Nonprofit organizations play a critical role in a community’s response to disasters, but there is often little time or money invested in preparing these organizations to rebound quickly and respond effectively, especially when it comes to their information technology (IT) systems.
On October 13, 2006, the Information Technology disaster preparedness program conducted a workshop, held in partnership with the Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington. Nonprofits learned how to conduct a business impact analysis to determine the current strengths and weaknesses of their organization and infrastructure; how to designate a communications, protection and readiness team to respond when disaster strikes; how to protect their organization’s technology and data; and how to leverage technology tools to help them prepare for a disaster.
Mission:
To ensure that all nonprofit organizations can use technology to better serve their communities.
