The following grants were approved by the Board of Trustees in Spring 2008:

The Abraham Fund Initiatives $35,000
The Abraham Fund works to advance co-existence, equality, and cooperation among Israel's Arab and Jewish citizens. This funding supports the organization's Government Training and Advocacy Initiative, which partners with Israeli government ministries and Civil Service officials to educate government employees and administrators about the conditions and realities of the Arab sector and help shape and inform government decisions.
American University $25,000
This grant will help fund a Visiting Professor in Israel Studies at American University's Center for Israel Studies.
Dance Place $15,000
Dance Place's mission is to transform lives through providing affordable performing arts and creative education programs that inspire personal growth, professional success, physical wellness, and community engagement. This funding supports Dance Place Next Generation youth programs.
Facing History and Ourselves $20,000
Facing History and Ourselves is an international educational and professional development organization whose mission is to engage students of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism, prejudice, and anti-Semitism in order to promote the development of a more humane and informed citizenry. This grant provides program support to explore and develop expansion of the organization's work into Montgomery County and Washington, DC.
The Foundation for Jewish Culture $25,000
The Foundation for Jewish Culture invests in artists, scholars, and creative individuals who are exploring the fabric of Jewish life and advancing the expression of Jewish culture, and Jewish peoplehood in all its diversity. This grant will fund a one-day Music Conference in Fall 2008 for musicians, presenters, and producers of Jewish music, including directors of Jewish Music Festivals across the United States.
The Gandhi Brigade $35,000
Gandhi Brigade's mission is to prepare youth, particularly those who are vulnerable or at-risk, to become community leaders, using media as their vehicle. This grant supports a training program leading to youth certification in media production and subsequent employment as peer instructors.
Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA) $25,000
JSSA offers a broad range of counseling, educational, and career services, as well as in-home support, hospice and nursing care, and social services, regardless of race, religious background, or ability to pay. This grant is to the Polinger Adolescent Treatment and Outreach Endowment Fund, in honor of Joan dePontet's service to JSSA.
Montgomery County Collaboration Council $28,435
This funding supports training for Montgomery County youth workers employed in out-of-school time programs. Funding will provide for recurring trainings in the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 in "Advancing Youth Development" and "Working with Immigrant Youth."
New Israel Fund/Shatil $25,000
For twenty-eight years, the New Israel Fund has fought for social justice and equality for all Israelis, without regard to religion, race, or gender. This funding supports a project dedicated to meeting the needs of immigrants from the former Soviet Union regarding their Jewish identity.
PANIM $15,000
PANIM educates and empowers Jewish youth to activism, leadership, and service opportunities through service learning initiatives that combine Jewish values, learning, and social responsibility. The current funding will underwrite two service learning conferences for educators during the 2008-09 school year.
The Sitar Arts Center $5,000
The Sitar Arts Center provides young people in its inner-city community the opportunity to discover their gifts in the visual and performing arts through multidisciplinary arts education opportunities in visual arts, music, drama, dance, digital arts, and creative writing. This funding is for general operating support.
THEARC $40,000
THEARC is an education, arts, and recreation facility located east of Washington, DC's Anacostia River that provides arts, educational, recreational, and medical services to underserved residents of Washington's Ward 8. The grant supports The Arts Fund at THEARC, a collaboration between The Levine School of Music, The Washington Ballet, and The Corcoran Gallery of Art that provides and promotes THEARC's arts programming. This year's funding will allow the partners to collaborate on a Community Arts Festival as well as to help provide scholarships and program support
The Washington/District of Columbia
Jewish Community Center
$25,000
Funding is for The EntryPoint/Gesher City program, which acts as a bridge between young Jewish adults and the local Washington Jewish community by providing access to social and professional networks, information resources, and local Jewish agencies and organizations. This grant will help fund a Program Coordinator staff position and will help support strategic outreach and marketing efforts to non-affiliated Jews.

The Foundation is the principal underwriter of The Washington Jewish Music Festival. This funding will underwrite the 10th Anniversary edition of the Music Festival.
