An environmental stewardship program to encourage public agencies and private
landowners to incorporate environmentally safe land management practices to
ensure the well-being of California Indian basketweavers and the native plants
on which they depend for their cultural survival and economic livelihood.

Sustainable Northwest, Portland, OR - $10,000
The WallowaWoods Project, a project focused on conserving and enhancing northeastern
Oregon's forest, wildlife and community vitality, by rebuilding an appropriately-scaled
forest economy based on sustainable forest management.
Community Alliance with Family Farmers Foundation, Davis,
CA — $10,000
Support for the BIOS program of outreach to farmers to encourage low-impact
farming methods.
Corporation for the Northern Rockies, Livingston, MT

To support "The Blackfoot Watershed Restoration Project," to enhance
the economic vitality and environmental quality of family ranch operations in
Idaho via a coalition of ranchers, farmers, Native Americans, environmentalists
and government agencies.

To support the "Native SUN Hopi Solar Electric" to build a demonstration
facility that serves Hopi and Navajo families.

To support "Ricelands to Wetlands," a collaborative project between
rice farmers and conservationists to increase wetland habitat for migratory
waterfowl and decrease post-harvest rice straw burning.

A rangeland management program to improve cultural, economic and environmental
well-being on the Navajo Reservation.

To support the campaign in the greater Victoria region to protect the Sooke

The Native Grass Propagation Project, to help establish the propagation of native
grass seeds as an alternative business that will strengthen the local economy
suffering from loss of forest jobs and other economic transitions.
Solar Energy
International, Carbondale, CO — $10,000
To help construct a commercial solar oven with Mujeres Activas and Fundacion
de Apoyo Infantil in Mexico. Mujeres Activas seeks to operate a solar bakery
in order to generate income to support community development projects.

In support of collaborative efforts to improve the economic viability and environmental
health of rural communities in Utah.
Wilderness Society, San Francisco, CA — $15,000
The Range of Light Project, an effort to continue the Wilderness Society's long
interest in establishing wildland protection in the Sierra Nevada with the added
component of building local support to ensure long-term success. The project
addresses land preservation, protection of biological diversity, and economic
development of affected communities.

Restoration Trust, San Francisco, CA — $8,000
To promote a new transportation system for Yosemite National Park, responding
to the opportunity presented by the Yosemite Area Regional Transportation Strategy
( YARTS), a partnership between local government and the National Park Service
involving a series of information gathering and planning meetings.

To support the organization's efforts to assist indigenous groups in Central
America legalize and protect their ancestral land rights.
