To support grocery and fresh produce lines of credit for 15 food assistance agencies in the neighborhoods of South Pittsburgh, as well as distribute fresh produce.
The Pittsburgh Foundation/The Pittsburgh Promise $124,000
Support for the Pittsburgh Promise, a scholarship program to help students graduating from Pittsburgh Public Schools pursue further education after high school, and to enhance the growth, stability, and economic development of the Pittsburgh region.
Saltworks Theater $10,000
To present educational plays and materials about bullying and drug and alcohol use and abuse prevention in Pittsburgh City Schools.
Sto-Rox Neighborhood Health Center $10,000
Jackie Ross Memorial Fund grant in memory of Jackie Ross, Birmingham Foundation administrative assistant who passed away from cancer in March 2007. For the Hilltop Community Healthcare Center to assist residents with the cost of screenings to prevent cancer.
United Way $12,000
Involve at-risk youths in a youth employment program that will become a route to safer neighborhoods, de-escalate gang rivalries, promote peaceful means of conflict resolution, and reduce teen violence.
Urban Youth Action, Inc. $50,000
Improve academic performance and promotion/ graduation rates of participants through school-based and youth development programs.
Voices Against Violence/Youthplaces $84,150
Provide children with a quality summer program and promote a safe environment through mentoring, cultural exposure, physical activity, and life skills education.
YouthWorks $50,000
Provide life-changing career preparation for low-income youth through employment opportunities, skill acquisition, career exploration, and practitioner resources.
