The Birmingham Foundation is a private, independent foundation created on May 1, 1996 with assets from the sale of The South Side Hospital. The foundation is dedicated to health-related and human services grant-making in the south neighborhoods of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which are part of the 15203, 15210 and 15211 zip code areas.

Over $9.7 million has been distributed to 145 nonprofit organizations since the foundation began its grantmaking in 1997. The foundation is ably guided by a 11-member Board of Directors who represent the community in making decisions regarding both our grantmaking investments and our financial investments. For its efforts, the Birmingham Foundation is the recipient of the 2001 Outstanding Foundation Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals in Western PA.
